A Useful Estimate.
Not a Mortgage Offer.

This calculator assumes the interest rate stays the same for the whole mortgage and that payments are made monthly. Your lender may calculate interest differently and may include other costs.

04 / Common questions

Before You Decide

Clear answers to the questions people usually ask when comparing mortgage costs.

How accurate is this mortgage calculator?

It provides an illustration using the price, deposit, rate and term you enter. A lender's quotation can differ because of fees, rate changes, payment dates and its own calculation method.

What does loan-to-value mean?

Loan-to-value, or LTV, is the mortgage amount expressed as a percentage of the property's value. A £270,000 mortgage on a £300,000 property is 90% LTV.

Can I make mortgage overpayments?

Many mortgages allow some overpayment, but limits and early repayment charges vary. Check the terms of your mortgage before making an additional payment.

Does this show stamp duty and legal costs?

No. The estimate focuses on the mortgage itself. Budget separately for property tax, legal work, surveys, moving costs, insurance and any lender or broker fees.
